This is how it’s done.
Base Carrera, manual, no sunroof, no interior frippery, reasonably sized wheels, low-key color, surfboard on rack. Perfect.

except the no sunroof part :p

winning indeed! Also, dat 7er!

no sunroof = less weight and more helmet room!

Are we sure it's a surfboard and not a small SUP board? This delineation makes a huge difference in how I stereotype this person.

Haha, true that. It’s not an SUP, about an 8" and fairly narrow longboard, not a paddle to be found.

One of my guys just picked that up last weekend for $2800, it needs timing chain guides but it’s a solid car. Love me some E38.

To each their own, I’m not a fan of sunroofs. I never use them, and it’s just more stuff to break.

E38 > all other 7ers!
A tech here got an 04 XC90 TT I-6 AWD for $800 from a customer. Needed a CEM. He installed it, cleaned it and posted it on CL today :] Easy money

Yup! Good thing your dude is getting rid of that XC, that those TT sixes are money pits.

My '87 300D ate a sunroof motor and cable - $700+ - thankfully still under warranty.

AWD set up is more of a pain than the engine. Besides the obvious “worlds worst transmission”, the active AWD coupler and angle gear are not very good and EXPENSIVE to fix.

Sunroofs don’t break in Japanese cars :)

I wish I had been able to buy the 01 Blue with aero model I was looking at. Oh well, someday.

And that’s a simple, repairable sunroof. Lots of stuff now requires buying the complete sunroof cassette for huge amounts of money.

Don’t forget the extra weight on a place you don’t want it. And the loss of interior space. In a Volvo alright, in a Porsche: NEVER!
![]() 08/02/2016 at 17:18 |

That too! There’s more than one XC that I know of around here running around in 2wd because they had somebody pull the driveshaft out.
![]() 08/02/2016 at 17:18 |

This is it. Totally. Just loose those US-things in the tail bumpers and it’s perfect.

Exactly! If you’re going to have a sunroof in your 911, you may as well drive a Targa.

Someday indeed, when the kids are older for me.

Yep. The 997 fixed so many of the 996's little annoyances, it’s a really great car.

Its more of a “I need a raise” situation for me

That too, yeah.

That’s the plan for my 996.

If I recall correctly, most of the charge was labor, and most of the labor was for dropping and reinstalling the headliner.

Neat, but your picture is off center. I’ve cropped out that car in front so you can see the Porsche:

Ah crap, I knew I missed something. That’s a ‘71 912 Cabriolet 1600S, very rare, and also winning.
